James Greenberg

Author of Roman Polanski: A Retrospective

James Greenberg is editor in chief of the DGA Quarterly, the craft journal of the Director's Guild of America. He was a film critic for Los Angeles magazine and has written for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Premiere, and Entertainment Weekly. He was senior editor of the late, lamented American Film magazine and started his career as a critic and reporter for Daily Variety.

In his thirty years as a journalist, he has written about film noir, watched BernardoBertolucci at work in Nepal, and reported on Jack Nicholson directing the Chinatown sequel, The Two Jakes.

He first met Roman Polanski in 1991 when he was invited to accompany him for a week as he filmed Bitter Moon on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. He has observed Polanski at work in the studio in Paris and has interviewed him on several occasions.
